About Keesing  

Keesing is a global leader in puzzle and braintainment content, creating engaging print and digital experiences enjoyed by millions worldwide. Founded in Amsterdam, the company operates across the globe and leverage innovation and creativity to improve its content.  

The client's challenge 

Following its double materiality assessment, Climate Change and Circular Economy were identified as material topics for Keesing. This meant that, under the CSRD, the company was required to report on these topics in line with the detailed disclosure requirements of ESRS E1 (Climate) and E5 (Resource Use and Circular Economy), while also meeting the expectations of auditors and key stakeholders regarding the quality of the information provided. 

In practice, this posed a significant challenge. ESRS requires a large number of datapoints, including comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculations across the value chain (Scopes 1, 2, and 3), as well as clear targets and governance for emissions reduction. Delivering this for the first time requires not only technical expertise in GHG accounting, but also strong coordination across teams, clear ownership of data, and robust project management. Like many companies preparing for CSRD, Keesing needed support to translate regulatory requirements into a practical, future-proof reporting approach. 

Our approach 

Our work with Keesing went beyond preparing disclosures for Climate Change and Circular Economy. The focus was on building a scalable foundation for CSRD-ready data collection, monitoring, and strategic decision-making. 

Together with our software partner Salacia, we supported Keesing in establishing baseline GHG emissions and setting up ongoing monitoring for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Building on this baseline, we conducted a risk and resilience analysis and supported the development of clear ambitions, targets, policies, and action plans for both climate and circularity. 

To translate data into decision-making insights and CSRD-aligned disclosures, we guided Keesing using our reporting templates, helping ensure consistency, audit readiness, and high-quality narrative reporting under the ESRS requirements.

The result 

The result of our work not only allowed Keesing to fast-track its CSRD alignment but also laid a strong foundation for Keesing´s sustainability journey and improvement over time. With clear KPIs, ambitions, and a concrete improvement roadmap defined during this project, Keesing is now well positioned to monitor progress and build year-on-year maturity in its sustainability reporting.

Concrete deliverables from this project include:  

• Science-based measurements for GHG emissions and circularity (inflow, outflow and waste) for three years: a trial year, baseline year, and second year. 
• A CSRD- and ESRS-aligned shadow report 
• A clear methodology and reporting handbook that guides future reporting and data monitoring.
